Vanashing Fears

The shades had never been bright, but this day seemed particularly gloomier to Connor. He'd been in this realm for two years without so much as a note. He didn't know what was happening at his home. For all he knew, the war could have been lost, something told him that that wasn't true. Connor strode into the shades his long, dark brown hair was matted to his head and his robes were soaked. He raised his hands to his face rubbing his eyes in a frantic attempt to get the water from his eyes, but before he stopped and started running towards the lake. He was already soaked and didn't want to have anything to do with water so soon, but at the lake, he'd be at a more strategic advantage where there was a large amount of water. He knew what was about to happen and had been warned about it by his father several times before, but yet standing here and facing it now seemed almost impossible. He looked around the ring around his left hazel eye clearly showing a bright yellow. Fear. For just a moment there was silence. Just silence. Then the sound of a sword scraping on the ground filled the shades. It lasted for a full painful minute. And then there was nothing. Connor's breathing shallowed as he fell to the ground. What is happening? he thought not able to find the ability to speak through his pain. And when his breath stopped did his pain end. Connor tried to wrap his mind around how he was still alive. But to anyone who happened have seen him in the shades, he was gone.
